Cooking Classes
These classes are a blast! We love having you in the bakery trying out new dishes and exploring the world of baking -and beyond! Don't see a class you'd like to take? Let us know - we are always looking for new ideas!
Fall 2010 Cooking classes
Classes are held evenings from 5:30 to 7:30 at the Blue Ridge Bakery

Just for Kids - Cookie Decorating Classes with the Pisgah Center for Wildlife Education
Learn about local wildlife and decorate an animal cookie! Free!
Classes are every other Thursday from
11:00 to 11:30 a.m.

July 28: Bread Baking Class-Marble rye
Learn about rye flour and rye breads. Make your own loaf, choose from marble rye, dark rye or light rye. $15.00
Wednesday, August 18: Greek Main Dishes II
Learn how to make Greek style meatballs, baked fish plaki and the famous moussaka. $30.00
Wednesday, August 25: Bread Baking Class-Focaccia
Focaccia is the precursor to pizza dough. Everyone will make their own dough and top it with an assortment of traditional and unique toppings. $30.00
Wednesday, September 8: Teen Cooking Class
Specifically designed for middle and high school age children, we will go over some of the basics of reading recipes and using recipes as a base for making your own creations. We will be making pizza dough from scratch and each student will make his/her own pizza. We will also be working with cookie dough and each student will create his own cookie recipe. The kids will be eating what they make so bring them hungry. $25.00
Wednesday, September 15: Jewish Holiday Meal
Get ready for a sweet year with this special Jewish New Year menu. Not just for Rosh Hashana, you can make this meal whenever you want to impress friends and family. We will be learning how to make perfect beef brisket with vegetables, noodle kugel with apple, honey & raisins, and honey cake. $30.00
Tuesday, September 21: Bread Baking Class - Challah
Learn how to make one of the tastiest and most beautiful breads-Challah. It is a Jewish egg bread, slightly sweet and wonderfully soft. Learn how to braid it into a long loaf or weave it into a round loaf. Use the leftovers (if you have any) to make wonderful French toast or bread pudding. $15.00
Wednesday, September 22: Greek Desserts
Learn how to work with phyllo dough by making the most famous Greek dessert of all; baklava, and a few variations. Also learn how to make kourambiethes, or Greek Wedding cookies. $25.00
Wednesday, September 29: Spanish Tapas
We will show you all the steps you need to throw your own Tapas party. Tapas are a variety of appetizer sized portions designed to tempt and tantalize your tastebuds. It is the perfect food for your next cocktail party. $30.00
Tuesday, October 5: Greek Appetizers
In this class we will be making our own stuffed grape leave (dolmades) and Greek cheese triangles (tiropitakia). Let the festivities begin! $30.00
Tuesday, October 12: Greek Main Dishes II
Learn how to make Greek style meatballs, baked fish plaki and the famous moussaka. $30.00
Tuesday, October 19: Middle Eastern Foods
Learn how to make the most popular dishes of Middle Eastern Cuisine; tabouleh, hummus and falafel. Also look for a surprise or two in this class! $30.00
Tuesday, October 26: Holiday Pies and Pastry
Get ready for the season with this fun class…we will explore pie crust techniques and learn how to use fall fruits and vegetables in a variety of sweet treats. $25.00
